Mark Schenker is billed as 'lead bass' for the Maryland-based band Funny Money. One listen to 'All Tied Up' from the band's latest release, "Stick It!" and you've got a pretty clear indication of his why he bears this title. His melodic lines flow seamlessly throughout the song, providing a melodic counter-point to the straight-up, AC/DC-like rhythm guitars. Schenker also plays bass in the seminal Baltimore rock band KIX, which includes Funny Money bandmates Steve Whitman (vocals) and Jimmy Chalfant (drums).
Schenker gained notoriety in the '80's with the East Coast bands Gastem and Centerfold. He teamed up with Whitman and Chalfant in Funny Money when KIX disbanded in 1994. In 2004, Whitman invited him to hammer out powerful, melodic bass lines for the reunited KIX as well.
Mark's arsenal of Warwick basses is stately: his favorite basses are two Streamer LX's - one in a black oil finish with green LEDs, the other in red with red LEDs. He also has a Buzzard LTD, a Streamer Jazzman, a Streamer Pro M, a Corvette Pro Line and three additional Streamer LX's. If that's not enough passion for Warwick instruments you can log on to Mark's myspace page (listed below) and read for yourself his words, "I love Warwick basses."
