Alex Iturralde, aka Alexitu, is the bass player for the Bolivian latin/rock band Deszaire.
Born in Heidelberg in 1979, Alex started playing guitar at the age of 12 after having heard the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He decided to switch to bass because "I noted at 17 that my hands were far too big for the small neck on electric guitars," he recalls. The first bass player who caught his attention was Flea and even nowadays Alex says, "I think he is fantastic; a blend of technique and attitude." Actually Alex believes that attitude is one of the most important things in a musician. He lists Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, Twiggy Ramirez (former bassist of Marilyn Manson), Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols, Krist Novoselic of Nirvana and Les Claypool of Primus as influences. Alex also works as a producer in La Paz and produced Deszaire's third CD, "XXX," as well as radio jingles and station IDs.
Alex chooses his basses the same way he chooses influences. "Warwick has attitude and a woody and warm sound, plus killer looks and these are all important things to me."
