The in Zurich living bassist and guitarist Nico Schläpfer has been playing for the Swiss band Cataract since 2008.

Born in 1985, Nico started playing the guitar at the age of 16 and at 22 he broadened his scope with the bass. As a teenager he listened to thrash and death metal of bands like Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura and In Flames. In 2003 he had his first performance with the band Timor and later played guitar in various smaller projects.

Cataract belongs to the first generation of European bands that since 1998 create a mix of hardcore and thrash. After one EP and countless shows all over Europe they follow up in 2003 with their next album “Great Days of Vengeance” for Lifeforcerecords. This gives the five from Zurich additional respect in the music scene - and the first deal of a Swiss band with Metal Blade.

After more than 500 shows in America and Europe (playing with Biohazard, Caliban, Born From Pain, Entombed, Hatebreed, Machine Head, Napalm Death, Pro Pain, Sick Of It All, Slayer, S.O.D., Unearth, Type O Negative, Dark Funeral etc) and releasing 5 albums, Cataract became an important member of European metal and hardcore.
